Implementation of Catch Certification System for Fishery Products

(Import / Transshipment)

Please be informed that Korea National Fishery Products Quality Management Service (NFQS) has implemented “Catch Certification System” for fishery products within the following scope in order to strengthen port state’s measures to prevent domestic delivery and distribution of illegally caught fishery products in foreign waters.

1. 3 new Target Species as from 30th of June 2017 (loading date at origin):

_ Pacific Saury (Cololabis Saira)

_ Bobo Croaker (Pseudotolithus Elongates)

_ Longneck Croaker (Pseudotolithus Typus)

2. In addition to the previous ones from 2014:

_ Southern Blue Fin Tuna

_ Blue Fin Tuna

_ Toothfish, Dissostichus

_ Snow crab

_ King crab

3. Processing Type:

_ Frozen Products (HS Code 0303)

_ Fresh Refrigerated Product (HS Code 0302)

4. Rule Applicability:

_ Import or Delivery of Pacific Saury and Croacker

_ This rule is applied to all cargo types: Import, Transshipment and Through Cargo

Shippers are required to provide a Catch Certificate for the above species. Failure to present such certificate to the Korean authorities may result in the container(s) not being able to discharge in Korea.

In order to avoid any complications, delays or additional costs, you are advised to comply with the NFQS procedure and plan shipments accordingly.




Weight limitation (SANDAKAN & TAWAU ports)

Please note that the following weight limitations are being imposed by the terminal operators of Sandakan and Tawau port with immediate effect.


These two ports located in East Malaysia are served via Port Kelang using Third party feeders.


i. Maximum Gross Weight for 20’ laden is 27 Tons

ii. Maximum Gross Weight for 40’ laden is 32 Tons.

iii. Maximum Gross Weight for 20’ OOG is 28 Tons

iv. Maximum Gross Weight for 40’ OOG is 33 Tons

v. The Port reserves the right not to accept 20’ and 40’ containers with more than the Maximum Gross Weight of 27 Tons and 33 Tons respectively.

This applies for both export and import containers.


Please note that units exceeding these weight limits will NOT be accepted for discharge in these ports.


Containers with cargo exceeding the above weight limitations will need to be reworked at Port Klang before on-carriage. All costs related to the reworking will be debited to the respective POL for ultimate recovery from the shipper”
